Prayer Ministry
"BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING, BUT IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION WITH THANKSGIVING LET YOUR REQUESTS BE MADE KNOWN TO GOD." PHILIPPIANS 4:6
WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF PRAYER
AT FIRST BAPTIST HENDERSONVILLE
TWO OF THE GREATEST GIFTS GOD HAS GIVEN TO MAN ARE THE HOLY BIBLE, HIS WRITTEN MESSAGE TO US, AND THE PRIVILEGE OF PRAYER, AN INTIMATE COMMUNION THAT REVEALS HIS HEART AND OURS. IT IS THROUGH PRAYER THAT WE CONNECT WITH GOD.
WHY PRAY?
-
God desires an intimate relationship and communication with us.
-
Prayer is the gateway to know and love God and to partner with Him in His purposes.
-
Jesus Christ taught that we ought always to pray. (Luke 18:1)
-
When we intercede, we become prayer partners with Christ who is always interceding before the Father.
-
God longs to meet our needs to the point of overflowing.
-
Prayer transfers burdens from our shoulders to His and upholds others before Him.
-
Answered prayer builds our faith and encourages us to pray more.
The following dedicated prayer ministries have specific functions in the life of our church. You may want to participate in one or more of the following:
PRAYER WARRIORS
Prayer Warriors are those who pray in the prayer room in Building E one hour per week for prayer requests submitted to the church by individuals. On request, "prayer-grams" may also be written to those in need of a special word of encouragement.
Anyone who has a prayer need is encouraged to call 828-693-7729 (PRAY). If a volunteer is on duty when the call is received, they will take the request and, if the caller wishes, pray with them. If a volunteer is not available, the caller receives a recording inviting them to leave a message, stating their name, telephone number, and prayer request, and their call will be returned.
ARMOR BEARERS
Armor Bearers serve one hour every five weeks in the prayer room in Building A during one of the three Sunday morning worship services. By the direction of the Holy Spirit, these intercessors pray for the pastor, the service, staff, teachers, volunteers and the many ministries of the church. They also pray for our community, that others may know Jesus and come to be a part of His church.
THE MEN'S PRAYER BREAKFAST
The Men's Prayer Breakfast is a ministry specifically designed to encourage men to come and pray every Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. Breakfast is available for a small fee. After a short devotional from a guest speaker, the men move to small groups to pray for each other, any requests, ministries of the church and many other activities. Silent prayer is acceptable, as well. Guests are alway welcome to attend.
WOMEN'S MISSIONARY UNION (WMU)
WMU is a ministry that supports the work of missionaries in our church and in the Baptist denomination. This is accomplished through prayer, financial support and education about various mission projects from our own community and around the world. WMU meets at 9:45 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in room A-200B.
Missionary Prayer Groups

Homebound Missionary Support Group
consists of homebound church members who receive our missionary prayer requests and praises.
Copies of missionaries' e-mail prayer requests may be found in the missions brochure rack in the Welcome Center.
HOME PRAYER GROUPS
The focus of this new ministry opportunity is to use a scripture based prayer guide undergirding all areas of our church ministries. The prayer guide is designed for seasoned pray-ers and to encourage those who are uncomfortable praying in groups. Groups meet for about one hour each week in homes or at church.
WOMEN'S PRAYER GROUP
A Women's Prayer Group, sponsored by the the Women's Ministry, meets weekly at the church to pray for each other, our church, its ministries and other requests. It is a time of praise, worship, thanksgiving and intercession. The group meets Thursdays from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. in room A-200B. Please call the church office to sign up.
CROSSWALK PRAYER ROOM
The Crosswalk Prayer Room provides daily prayer covering for Crosswalk, including students, volunteers and staff, and any prayer requests submitted by students. A volunteer prays in the prayer room at Crosswalk from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
Will YOU be a part of the prayer ministry? Prayerfully consider participating in one or more of these vital ministries. You will receive a blessing!
